Dr. Patel is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Emory University, specializing in General and GI Surgery. He serves as the Chief of Surgery at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital and holds the position of Director of Robotic Education for the General Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Patel is the Co-Chair for product value analysis for surgical services.
A strong advocate for advancing robotic surgery education, Dr. Patel is co-editor of the SAGES Manual of Robotic Surgery, one of the pioneering textbooks in the field. He also directs the SAGES Resident/Fellows Robotic Courses, which have successfully trained over 500 residents and fellows in recent years. Additionally, Dr. Patel chairs the Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital Robotic Steering Committee and collaborates with Sherry Rogers to promote innovation and efficiency while ensuring high-quality care. This initiative has positioned Saint Joseph’s Hospital as a leading facility for robotic surgery, serving as a model for other institutions in the healthcare system.
